Several members of the public urged the Citrus County School Board to consider placing an ordinance on a future agenda that would require instruction about human fetal development using a video commonly referred to as the “Baby Olivia” video.
Kristen Nelson, John Labriola (representing the Christian Family Coalition) and others urged the board to adopt local guidance so students in grades 6–12 would receive a high-definition, multi‑minute video showing embryologic development and key organ milestones. Speakers said the Florida House passed related legislation this session but that the senate removed the language; they asked the board to act locally so the material would be available for the 2025–26 school year. John Labriola provided the board with a draft ordinance for consideration.
Speakers recommended the Live Action “Baby Olivia” video as an option and said the video is available at no cost. Board members did not take action at the meeting; the board chair read the public‑comment rules and invited staff to consider any requested agenda placement.
