PCY construction update: 20 new classrooms, portables and extra funds approved for portable installation

Melissa, the district's construction lead, said the PCY project began nearly two years ago and includes new two‑story modular classroom buildings, interim housing, and modernizations. She told the board "There will be 20 new classrooms opening in fall, and these will house first through fourth graders, an OTPT classroom, double RSP classroom, gate, and then intervention and ELD." Photographs and renderings in the presentation showed classrooms with built‑in cabinetry, projector walls and exterior finishes including solar panels.
Melissa provided construction specifics: 24,120 bricks were placed on two primary buildings, modular classroom delivery and craning occurred last year, and staff tours were conducted with teachers and paraprofessionals. She said furniture orders are scheduled for early to mid‑July and that the campus will be closed to students during heavy construction work over the summer.
Budget and contracting actions
The board approved an additional uncommit of $102,000 from previously committed Fund 17.1 dollars to cover higher‑than‑anticipated portable installation costs; after this action Melissa said $648,000 will remain committed as a reserve. The district then accepted the lowest responsive bid for portable installation from Urban Professional Builders in the amount of $533,000. Timeline and logistics
Melissa said 34 classrooms will move over the summer (every grade except fifth and sixth), movers are scheduled to begin on June 9, and kindergarten/TK wings will be modernized during the 2025–26 year. Further phases of site work and additional modular delivery are planned for June 2026–2028; interim housing will be removed and playgrounds restored after later construction phases.
Board members asked about landscaping, storage of extra materials and the warranty period; staff said extra brick and carpet squares are being held for repairs and that standard warranties apply for the first year after occupancy.
