Senate approves Department of State Lands budget, funds vessel removal and research

The Senate approved Senate Bill 5539, which sets the 2025–27 budget for the Oregon Department of State Lands, after a brief floor presentation.
On the floor Senator Gorsek summarized the measure, saying the bill “authorizes the department to manage over $117,000,000 in expenditures.” He said the bill provides more than $59,000,000 for common-school-fund programs that manage and protect state-owned lands and waterways, more than $12,000,000 for continued development of the Elliott State Research Forest, nearly $11,200,000 to remove abandoned and derelict vessels from Oregon’s rivers and coastlines, and continued support for Portland Harbor cleanup, wetlands mitigation and coastal science research.
Gorsek described these as targeted investments in stewardship, environmental protection and public access and said the measures are funded without relying on the general fund. The clerk called the roll and the Senate declared the bill passed by constitutional majority.
