Senator Marty Manning Jr. presented the bill on the floor, saying the commission’s budget totals $7,093,909 in other funds and funds 15 positions (15.0 FTE), a 21.9% increase above the current-service-level budget. Manning said the budget includes “approximately $1,300,000 for our case management systems and electronic filing systems upgrades, additional Department of Justice legal fees, training upgrades, and reclassifying a position as approved by the Department of Administrative Services chief human resource office.” He said the projected ending balance for the commission would be about $685,224, equivalent to 2.3 months of operating reserves.
The joint committee on ways and means recommended approval of the bill as amended; the clerk recorded the roll call and the Senate declared the bill passed. The bill is a budget appropriation and specifies staffing and systems upgrades for the commission; Manning urged an aye vote during floor remarks.
