The Muskego City Finance Committee recommended approval May 13 of an intermunicipal agreement with Waukesha County to formalize a backup public safety answering point (PSAP) arrangement.
City staff said Muskego previously relied informally on neighboring dispatch centers but had not formalized a backup agreement after New Berlin moved to county consolidation. Barb, a city emergency-management staff member, told the committee the agreement includes a provision that Waukesha County will not charge for the first 48 hours of colocation in an emergency.
City officials described the agreement as a preparedness step to ensure continuity if Muskego’s internal dispatch were disabled by events such as a fire at the dispatch center, a cut fiber line, or other system outage. Staff referenced a Milwaukee County incident in which county dispatch operations were relocated to Waukesha County during a fire.
There is no additional cost associated with the agreement as written, staff said. Committee members voted to recommend approval of the intermunicipal agreement to the full council.
