Columbia High academic team wins third straight state championship, honored by school board

Columbia High School’s academic team was honored at the Columbia County School Board meeting on May 13 after winning the Florida state academic team championship for the third consecutive year.
"So I just wanna point out, they won the state championship this year," said J.L. Kirby, head coach of the Columbia High academic team, during the team’s presentation. Kirby told the board the school is only the third district to win three state titles in a row since the state title was established in 1986.
Kirby introduced the team members by name and presented certificates; his assistant coach, Scott Stephenson, was also at the front. Board members and Superintendent Keith Cooley publicly congratulated the students and coaches, calling the accomplishment "remarkable" and praising their representation of the district.
The recognition was a presentation item; the board did not take formal action related to the team at the meeting.
