Martinsville accepts Wallace low bid for spring paving; city also opened sidewalk bids

City staff then reported on a separate solicitation for a roughly five-mile paving program; the low responsive bidder for that project was Wallace Construction at $668,625.78. City staff said they had reviewed the documents and found them in order and recommended the council accept Wallace’s bid for the paving work.
A council member moved to accept the Wallace paving bid of $668,625.78; another council member seconded the motion. The council then voted with the result recorded as in favor and the motion carried. Later in the meeting a separate motion was made and seconded to pay for the paving from city funds rather than filing an insurance claim; that motion also proceeded.
The award covers the spring paving contract as presented; staff did not, during the public discussion, provide a detailed construction schedule in the bid-opening segment. The sidewalk bid openings were recorded for procurement and will be subject to subsequent contract review and award processes by city staff and council.
