Council committee places 2025–26 Motor Fuel Tax resolution on agenda after staff explain increase

Public Works presented the 2025–26 Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) maintenance program resolution on May 13 and the committee voted to place the resolution on the regular agenda for the full council.

Superintendent Walt Landers described the resolution as the authorization to spend motor fuel tax funds on labor, supplies and resurfacing work; he said the packet to be submitted to IDOT functions as the city's annual MFT spending plan. Landers said the proposed MFT resolution includes higher amounts this year to cover contractual wage increases, rental rates for equipment used on MFT projects, a larger anticipated salt purchase (Landers cited roughly 500 tons for the coming year), and an oil‑and‑chip program plus a new line item for CA‑6 rock for Allied reconstruction work.

Comparing figures, Landers said last year's resolution totaled $610,952.60 and this year's package totals $1,811,042.88. He attributed the rise to the reasons above and told the committee staff will send the item to IDOT after council approval. The committee placed item number 14 on the regular agenda; no final vote on the resolution occurred at the committee meeting.

The resolution must be approved by the full council and submitted to the Illinois Department of Transportation for authorization to spend MFT funds.
