Committee backs bill to let LDWF set collector duck-stamp fee to raise habitat funds

The Committee on Natural Resources on May 14, 2025, reported House Bill 204 favorably. Representative Henry presented the bill, which would allow the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to set the fee for an optional collector duck stamp intended to raise funds for waterfowl habitat work.
Cole Garrett, LDWF general counsel, said the collector stamp is separate from the mandatory duck-stamp licensing privilege and that the agency seeks authority to establish a fee that conservation partners could promote to increase revenue for habitat projects. Garrett said the prior-year collector program generated “just over 75, $7,500” in revenue, as stated in testimony; he described the change as a mechanism for conservation partners to raise additional funds.
Representative Henry moved to report HB 204 favorably; the committee recorded no objections and reported the bill favorably.
