Board approves setback exception on Pine Place Road to aid post-fire rebuilding

Siskiyou County planning staff recommended and the Board of Supervisors approved a setback exception along Pine Place Road in the Indian Creek Subdivision to help property owners rebuild after damage from the Slater fire.
Rachel Jaram, senior planner, told the board the request is to reduce the county’s standard 50-foot setback from the road centerline (and the 20-foot property-line setback) to a 10-foot property-line setback along the length of Pine Place Road in the Indian Creek Subdivision. She said the planning commission already approved the request and that Siskiyou County code requires both the planning commission and the board of supervisors to approve such exceptions. Jaram reported there were no public comments and staff recommended approval.
A board member commented that the road in question is in many places “not a whole lot more than the driveway,” and the board moved to adopt the recommended motion. The board recorded affirmative votes approving the exception.
Staff noted agency comments can generate conditions on parcel and setback projects (for example: road-department encroachment permits or seasonal wildlife restrictions), but for this request the planning commission and staff recommended approval with the recommended conditions as presented. The board closed the hearing and approved the exception to allow continued rebuilding activity in the wake of the Slater fire.
