Siskiyou County fills several local vacancies, continues one cemetery vacancy

The Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors approved several district and advisory appointments and continued one vacancy during routine consideration of unscheduled vacancies.
County staff told the board there is an unscheduled vacancy on the Lakeview Cemetery District with a term ending Jan. 3, 2028; one interested person has not completed required voter registration and staff asked the board to continue that appointment. The board continued the Lakeview vacancy to allow the prospective appointee to become eligible.
The board appointed Altha Lindsey to the Aetna Cemetery District position that has been vacant since October 2024. The clerk’s office reported it had posted the vacancy and confirmed Lindsey’s address qualified her to serve.
The board also appointed Jackie Zediger to the May 10 Fire Protection District to fill a term ending Aug. 15, 2026, following the resignation of Millie Furlot. The clerk’s office said it posted the vacancy and confirmed Zediger’s eligibility as a registered voter within the district.
Finally the board appointed Amanda Ellsmore as the public agency representative to the Local Childcare Planning Council after the council recommended her appointment; the board recorded affirmative votes on those appointments.
During discussion, a board member raised the broader topic of cemetery consolidation and asked whether any effort—such as through LAPCO—was underway to combine struggling cemetery districts; staff did not report a completed consolidation and the item was not before the board for action.
