County awards $2.75 million bridge contract and approves Health & Human Services parking-lot rehab

The Sierra County Board of Supervisors awarded two Public Works construction contracts after presentations from Public Works Director Brian Davey.
The board approved a contract with Baldoni Construction Services to rehabilitate the Health and Human Services parking lot, in an amount not to exceed $116,684 and with a 30-working-day schedule from commencement. "The parking lot is in obvious need," Davey said, noting the project had been scoped more than a decade earlier and funding came from Health and Human Services.
On a larger project, the board approved awarding the Plumbago Road bridge replacement over Kanaka Creek to West Coast Contractors Inc. (doing business as West Coast Contractors) for $2,750,589.02 and 140 working days from commencement. Davey said the bridge project had been on county project lists since 2007 and is the last of several functionally obsolete bridge replacements. He noted the county must perform five years of environmental mitigation monitoring as part of a fish-and-wildlife permit.
Supervisor comments noted the aggressive schedule and the project's importance as a major north–south artery connecting Sierra and Nevada counties. The board voted to approve both contracts.
