Edinburg CISD board approves several administrator appointments, extends probationary contract and upholds grievance

Edinburg — The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees approved several personnel recommendations and took formal employment actions May 9, including appointments to campus leadership and an extension of a probationary contract under state law.
During the meeting the board approved the administration’s recommendation to appoint Ventura Perales Jr. as special teams coordinator at Edinburg North High School. Trustees also approved the appointment of Jesus Garza as an assistant principal at Johnny Economides High School and Melissa Zamora as an assistant principal at Edinburg High School.
The board voted to extend a chapter 21 probationary contract for an employee identified in the record as “MR.” The motion cited authority under Texas Education Code 21.102(c) and board policy DCA (legal) and approved a final fourth-year probationary contract; the motion language states the board determined it was doubtful “MR should be given a term contract at this time.”
Trustees also considered a level-3 employee grievance by Ernesto Vasquez; on the advice of counsel the board moved to uphold the level-2 decision in its entirety after executive-session discussion.
Board President David Torres and Superintendent Dr. Mario Salinas were present when the board took the actions. The board made several additional employment, reassignment, resignation and retirement approvals as part of the closed-session recommendations; the chair announced those votes in open session with motions to approve the administration’s recommendations.
