The Marshalltown Community School District board voted to transition from its longstanding BoardDocs system to Assembly (marketed as Simbly in the board packet), a board‑management suite offered through the Iowa Association of School Boards. The vote included procurement of three modules — meetings, policies and planning — intended to streamline agenda preparation, policy updates and strategic plan tracking.
Administrators told the board the Assembly system offers integrated modules for meeting management, policy distribution and a strategic‑planning scorecard. Randy Denham, board secretary, said Assembly’s partnership with the Iowa Association of School Boards will allow IASB policy primers and updates to flow into the district platform, reducing manual policy updates.
Superintendent Theron Schutte said the district has used BoardDocs for roughly 25 years and staff recommended a move because Assembly offered modernized features, direct policy integration with IASB, and better support. The district plans to begin the subscription June 1 so staff can migrate historical records and present the first agendas using the new system by mid‑July.
The board voted to approve the transition and implementation as presented. Staff will coordinate data migration and provide training to board members and staff.
