Council approves right-of-way dedications and RTC-funded roadway projects on Canyon Crest and Mesquite Boulevard

The Mesquite City Council approved several transportation and right-of-way items on April 8, 2025, including acceptance of deeds of dedication for Canyon Crest Boulevard and two interlocal agreements with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) for design and construction work.

Public works staff reported the city acquired two adjacent right-of-way segments from private owners (Canyon Crest LLC and L & B Holdings LLC) to complete frontage needed for Fire Station No. 2 and related roadway improvements. Council approved both deeds.

Engineering and funding: City staff asked council to approve a supplemental professional-services contract (Supplemental No. 1 to Interlocal Contract No. 3187) to cover increased engineering work on Canyon Crest and Horizon Boulevards for additional drainage design, demolition and subsurface utility work. The supplemental is fully reimbursable by the RTC.

The council also approved Interlocal Contract No. 3205 with the RTC to fund engineering design for the Mesquite Boulevard and Sand Hill Boulevard mill-and-overlay project. Public Works said the project will remove approximately five inches of worn asphalt and repave; the city is coordinating with utilities and expects a five-year no-cut policy after the repaving to reduce patching.

Votes and funding: Both the supplemental and the interlocal contract were approved; staff said RTC will reimburse the approved engineering costs and that construction bids are intended for summer schedules to minimize seasonal traffic impacts.

Ending: Work is intended to progress through the summer, with a nighttime paving strategy to limit daytime disruptions and coordination with utility partners to minimize repeated cuts after resurfacing.
