The City Council approved a resolution authorizing University Heights to participate in the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) 2025 road salt contracts for the coming winter season and requested an allocation of 2,500 tons to replenish salt used during a heavy winter. Mr. Pennington told council the city used about 2,500 tons this past season and is requesting the same quantity for replenishment.
Mr. Pennington explained that under the ODOT contract the city must accept between 85% and 115% of its requested quantity (2,125 to 2,875 tons). He also said the city’s on-site storage capacity is about 250 tons, though earlier remarks indicated operational replenishment practices after major events.
Council approved the resolution by roll call without further amendment; staff said they will store on-site what is feasible and manage deliveries under the contract to ensure salt availability for the next winter season.
