Members of the University Heights City Council agreed Tuesday to refer the proposed renewal of the city’s contract with SafeBuilt (building inspection/plan review vendor) to the Building & Housing Committee for further review.
Councilwoman Weiser said the contract is up for renewal in March and committee review is necessary so councilors can examine the draft language; she moved to refer the item so the committee could meet before the next council session. The motion passed.
Mayor Ginsburg said the draft contract circulating in packets reflected SafeBuilt’s proposal and not the administration’s preferred terms; he added the administration’s positions on scope and compensation were tied to staffing changes the administration is seeking for the Housing and Community Development Department. Administration officials said they needed committee-level time to align staffing, job descriptions and contract scope before presenting a final, negotiated contract.
Council referred the item to Building & Housing; members asked that the committee consider the contract and return recommendations to the full council on a timetable that would allow the city to address the March renewal deadline.
