Service Director Pennington told the council the damaged vehicle (Truck 212) was declared a loss and the insurance settlement totaled $58,533.09. Fabtex offered a 2013 model with low miles and hours that staff recommended to maintain spring cleanup and brush collection without delay. The insurance proceeds will cover most of the purchase price; the council waived competitive bidding requirements and authorized the purchase.
Council approved the motion by roll call with all members voting aye. Staff said a new truck had been budgeted for later in the year but lead times for new equipment would not meet immediate operational needs for brush pickup and spring events.
