Commissioners note Crescent Park open house and pending annexation of Old Masonic Temple property

Members of the Gig Harbor Arts Commission discussed an open house for Crescent Park and an upcoming annexation that could affect park planning.
Commissioners said a Crescent Park open house is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. and is presenting three rough concepts; the public is being asked for feedback on those concepts before the city advances one concept for more detailed design. Staff told commissioners the Old Masonic Temple parcel adjacent to the park is scheduled for annexation at the next City Council meeting. If the annexation proceeds, the property will be in city limits and could be considered for inclusion in the Crescent Park concepts as a community center.
Staff noted the Old Masonic Temple has extensive retrofit costs and may not be eligible for a historic‑preservation designation because it has been altered; however the property could still be considered in the park planning. Commissioners were reminded that final decisions, including whether to pursue historic designation or to retain or remove the building, rest with the City Council.
Commissioners said they planned to attend the open house and encouraged public comment at the event; no formal commission action was recorded.
