Chamber highlights new businesses, urges pilot all-way stop; council notes passport demand

During public comment, Carolyn Robertson Harding, president of the Buckley Chamber of Commerce, announced an upcoming ribbon cutting for Lounge Luxe Beauty Company on Highway 410 and reported that the chamber expects another ribbon cutting soon. Harding said business owners reported “near misses” and that flashing lights previously installed about eight or nine months ago have not sufficiently reduced hazards. She asked council to consider a temporary measure “especially given that summer is coming, the kids are all getting out of school, and the construction is still ongoing.”
Separately, Council Member Brandon and others discussed heavy demand for passport services following the U.S. REAL ID enforcement and summer travel, describing long lines at nearby passport events and suggesting the city consider offering passport photos locally as a potential revenue source. Brandon said he saw “at least a couple hundred people” at a recent Enumclaw passport event and noted the city could capture revenue by adding photo services.
No formal council action on the intersection or passport-photo idea was recorded; chamber requests and public safety concerns were entered into the public record for potential staff follow-up.
