Manistee Street resident raises rodent and speeding complaints; councilor asks code enforcement to follow up

Fred Davis of Manistee Street told the Pawtucket City Council at the April 23 meeting that his neighborhood has experienced a rodent problem for at least a year and that speeding remains an issue on Bevers Hill Avenue.
Davis said he hired a private exterminator after rats began nesting under a shed in his backyard and that bait boxes placed earlier by the city had to be removed because his contractor used a proprietary pesticide. “They try to get a place to live that’s right near a food source,” Davis said, and he said nearby properties with poor yard upkeep may be contributing to the problem.
President Mercer responded during the public-input portion that the matter falls under code enforcement and said he would speak with the department and ask staff to “concentrate on that area, you know, Greenlane and Manistee and Gloria” to look for violations. The council did not take formal action beyond that direction.
Why this matters: persistent rodent infestations pose public-health and nuisance concerns in residential neighborhoods, and residents told the council they want more persistent enforcement of property-maintenance rules.
The exchange occurred during the public-input portion of the meeting; no vote or ordinance was taken. Council staff and code enforcement are expected to follow up with the resident and inspect the identified streets.
