Residents urge Flathead County to repair Little Bitterroot boat launches as lake level falls

Several Little Bitterroot Lake residents told the Flathead County Board of Commissioners on April 24 that county-owned boat launches are unsafe and effectively unusable because of low water levels and sediment berms.
The speakers, representing the Little Bitterroot Lake Association and individual lakefront homeowners, said a combination of low lake levels, power loading and eroded berms has left launches impassable, hazardous to people and harmful to boats.
"First of all, thank you for your service. You guys could be out there, retired, playing, but you're working for us for us for the citizens of this, beautiful area, and I really appreciate your service," said Dan Hamlin, president of the Little Bitterroot Lake Association, during public comment. Hamlin asked the commissioners to consider permitting work on the county launches and to understand long‑term limitations at the sites.
