Council accepts petition to begin annexation process for West Benton property; public hearing set

The Leavenworth City Council on May 13 accepted a petition to initiate annexation for parcel number 241711130320, a property on West Benton Street, and scheduled a public hearing for 7 p.m. on June 10.
Staff said the parcel is not currently served by a public right-of-way and will require utility and access easements from neighboring property owners to develop. The applicant has been working on easement language and a boundary-line adjustment at the county level; staff noted that the annexation process does not by itself create utility connections and easements must be secured for future development.
Councilmembers asked staff to clarify zoning and utility service areas and to provide information at the public hearing about how sewer, water and road access would be achieved. The council approved moving the annexation forward and setting the hearing in order to give adjacent property owners and the public an opportunity to comment on the proposal.
