Summary

Michael Zelnick, presenting to the Albert Lea City Council on April 28, said the city of Albert Lea was selected as one of the "2025 Best Places to Work in Southeast Minnesota," a program run by Workforce Development Inc.
Zelnick explained the selection is based on a detailed employee questionnaire—"a 45 to 50 questionnaire page"—that covers benefits, turnover, safety, training and other workplace metrics. An independent firm, Personal Dynamics Consulting of Florida, processed the results, he said. "The city of Albert Lea was selected for 1 of the, 20 25 best places to work in Southeast Minnesota," Zelnick told the council.
Zelnick said this is the fourth time the city has been honored over roughly a 15-year span and thanked the council for its role as the city's employer and policy-setter. He said he did not have the full list of winners or the city's ranking and that other past winners have included local businesses and school districts. "As far as I know this year, we were the only municipality this year," he said.
The council thanked Zelnick and staff for participating in the program. Zelnick said a short video was prepared for the award ceremony but the city was not able to attend the event in person this year.
Ending: The recognition is intended to highlight the city’s employee policies and workplace practices; Zelnick encouraged councilors to note the award as evidence of staff recruitment and retention efforts.
