Resident complains of hydrant flushing eroding property; city says it will investigate

Albert Lea — During public forum on May 12, resident Robert Philbraten told the City Council that recent hydrant-flushing activity has diverted water onto his lawn and under his driveway base, creating a large hole and depositing debris on his property.
"When we got city water out there, they're flushing the hydrants, they're flushing it into the ditch... they started blowing it up in the air, landing on my lawn," Philbraten said. He told councilors the latest time water was directed at the base of his mailbox and said he brought photos for staff.
Mayor Rich Murray thanked Philbraten for bringing the matter forward and said the city would have someone look into it. "We'll have somebody take a look at it," Murray said. The council did not take formal action at the meeting; staff follow-up was promised.
Philbraten provided a street address during his remarks and offered to leave photographs with city staff. The council recorded the complaint during the public forum; no further public comment on the issue was made during the meeting.
