Library board reports Selco system transition; board backs Minitex resolution

The Austin Public Library alerted the council that it will close April 28 for staff training ahead of a system change and that the Selco Library System implementation will run April 29 through May 1.
A library representative told the council that patrons will retain the ability to check out materials with existing library cards during the transition and that a key feature of the new system is enhanced data-privacy protections. The representative also noted the library’s role in shared resources: the library board voted to support a Minitex resolution, which the board said preserves shared resource services and helps with equity by allowing libraries to share materials they might not otherwise be able to procure individually.
The library representative added that Austin’s library holds more Spanish-language materials than many regional libraries and that those materials can be shared through the system. The board indicated it will publish an infographic summarizing the library’s annual report; the council received the informational update and thanked the library for the notice.
No council action was required on the report; library staff will proceed with the April 28–May 1 transition plan and continue communication to patrons regarding service limitations during that period.
