Crookston Council OKs one-year summer hours for City Hall

The Crookston City Council on a voice roll call approved a one-year resolution changing City Hall summer hours to Monday through Thursday with extended morning hours and shortened Fridays through Labor Day 2025.
Councilmembers approved the measure after a staff explanation that downtown foot traffic on Friday afternoons is minimal. A staff member summarized the proposal as Monday–Thursday extended hours and Friday hours shortened to 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. during the summer period from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
The change preserves employees’ 40-hour workweeks by shifting hours earlier in the week; hourly staff will be able to make up time, and on-call arrangements for urgent public-works incidents will remain in place. Council discussion noted that, given staff schedules and accruals, the city could operate with core staff coverage and on-call responses for emergencies. One councilmember successfully asked that the resolution be adopted for one year only and returned to the council in April 2026 for reconsideration.
The council instructed staff to notify the public about the adjusted hours on the city website and other channels if the policy takes effect. The resolution passed on a roll call with all voting members recorded as “aye.”
The council handled the summer-hours item as a routine administrative resolution and did not attach additional funding or staffing changes; the council directed staff to return with any operational issues or suggested adjustments next spring.
