The Crookston City Council on May 5 adopted a resolution declaring vacant the seat formerly held by Council member Tim Menard and set a 10-day application period for interested candidates to apply for appointment.
City staff told the council the application window will begin immediately and close at noon on June 15. Staff recommended that councilmembers review submitted applications and hold interviews at the next regularly scheduled council meeting on June 19. Staff said the abbreviated application window was appropriate because local awareness of the vacancy had already spread and prospective candidates were likely already engaged in local government.
Council members clarified the application differs from the prior process, moving from a letter of interest to a standardized application form that requires documentation. Staff confirmed the new form is different than the previous process. The resolution passed on a voice/roll-call vote.
Staff said applications will be compiled and distributed to council prior to the June 19 meeting when the council plans to interview candidates.
