Staff reports: airport feasibility phase 2 contract, airshow preparations and Earth Day volunteer work

Port staff gave several short operational updates April 22, including progress on an airport feasibility study contract, event planning for the summer airshow, and an Earth Day volunteer cleanup at the Marina Park.
Staff said they are finalizing contract language with Mead & Hunt and the Federal Aviation Administration to start phase 2 of an airport feasibility study; staff hoped to have the contract in place the following week. The phase 2 scope will be confirmed with the FAA as required for federal participation.
On events, staff reported strong early interest and ticket sales for the annual airshow. Organizers were selling a limited number of premium "tailgater" parking spaces and VIP amenities; staff said ticket sales were running ahead of last year and the planned performer lineup included large military transports, vintage aircraft and other attractions. Staff noted they are coordinating parking layout and safety planning for the event ramp and continue to work with state agencies to discourage unsafe roadside parking along the highway.
Staff also reminded commissioners of the Port27s Earth Day volunteer event at the Marina Park scheduled that afternoon, including cleanup, painting and minor facility work to prepare for the boating season.
These updates were informational; staff will return with contracting documents for the airport study and further airshow logistics as plans solidify.
