The Village of Palos Park on May 12 approved routine maintenance and capital-repair contracts but postponed the purchase of police vehicles until a future meeting.
Council approved a proposal from Comfort Zone Heating and Cooling to provide yearly HVAC maintenance on village-owned buildings for $7,758 for the 2025–2026 period. Commissioner Catan moved to approve the Comfort Zone proposal; the motion was seconded and the council then completed a roll call vote that recorded affirmative votes and resulted in approval. Staff said the cost is included in the 2025 and 2026 budgets and recommended approval to identify potential breakdowns and reduce repair costs.
The council also approved a contract with Floors Incorporated of Woodstock, Illinois, to sand, repair and refinish the recreation-center gymnasium floor for $18,390. The work scope includes replacement of approximately 23 square feet of maple flooring, replacement of 10 broken boards, installation of new wood wall base along the south wall, machine sanding, application of two coats of oil-based polyurethane sealer and repainting game lines for one basketball and one volleyball court. Staff said the work is included in the FY2026 capital spending plan and that the Recreation Advisory Commission recommended approval.
Council delayed action on the police vehicle purchase to the June 9 council meeting because Commissioners Reed and Waite were not present; a motion to continue the item was made and seconded and the continuation was approved.
Why it matters: these actions advance routine facility maintenance and preserve asset life for village buildings and recreation infrastructure; the police vehicle purchase was deferred to ensure full council consideration and participation in the decision.
