Work session roundup: surplus auction set for May 5; county contracts for pest control and noxious-weed work, and a building-lease application

Cascade County staff provided a series of routine operations updates during the work session.

Surplus auction: County staff said the county will list 10 older fleet vehicles, one tractor, one snowblower and one tire machine on a public surplus auction beginning May 5, 2025. A printed list with estimated values was distributed and the auction was published in the Tribune on April 14 and April 20, 2025; items will be posted on the county website.

Noxious-weed control: Staff presented contract 25-39, an agreement with the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) that funds county work to control listed noxious weeds in MDT right-of-way across Cascade County. The MDT payment to the county is $60,000 annually; staff said this is a recurring annual agreement administered through the county’s weed and mosquito division.

Pest control at Expo Park: Staff described contract 25-42 with All American Pest Control Services Inc. of Great Falls for pest control at the Montana Expo Park, noting the contract total of $3,500 and that the contractor controls ground squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, skunks and other species from April through August to protect horses and public use areas.

Building lease application: Staff introduced a lease application by applicant Anthony Esch requesting to lease out existing bays (about 3,000 square feet) in an existing commercial building on parcel 5720400 (certificate of survey 5316). Staff said the bays would be rented for commercial purposes with property access from Twelfth Street.

All items were presented at the work session for placement on a future board agenda; no formal votes were recorded in the work session transcript.
