Cascade County seeks to formalize easement for 744 North radio repeater site; county to pay arrears and lower annual rent

County staff presented contract 25-37, an easement agreement with landowners Wesley Newhall and Nicholas Newhall that would allow Cascade County continued ingress and egress for the county’s 744 North radio repeater site.
The agreement, as presented in the work session, would make a name change to reflect current property ownership following the death of the prior owner, pay $2,580 in missed payments to the Newhalls, and then resume an annual payment of $720 for the easement. Staff said the site, north of a local town (described as north of “Boulager” in the transcript), is one of the county’s most heavily used radio sites for search-and-rescue, EMS and fire communications.
Staff noted the county does not pay utilities or building upkeep at the site; the landowner provides the tower, building and utilities and the county pays rent. Staff said the easement update is one of a set of leases the county has been updating for its repeater locations and that only two such leases remain to be updated.
