Wilmington athletics: conference honors, 1,000‑point scorer and a state cheer title highlighted

The Wilmington School Committee heard a winter‑season athletics recap highlighting individual honors, team milestones and a state championship during its April 30 meeting.

Athletics director presented several recognitions: Ashwin Baker was named Middlesex League boys indoor track MVP and a state champion in the 400 meters (acknowledged in person); Ava Boudreaux reached 1,062 career points for girls basketball, making her the program’s all‑time leading scorer on the girls’ side and plans to play at Bridgewater State; and the school’s girls cheer team won the state championship at Worcester State University with coach Kylie Valerio in attendance and senior all‑star Bella Iascone recognized.

The director reviewed team records and all‑star honorees across programs: boys basketball recorded a 12‑8 season (most wins since 2011) and had multiple all‑stars; girls basketball made the tournament and hosted a first‑round game; swimming, wrestling and other winter co‑op sports produced individual all‑star and conference recognitions. The athletic office asked families and the community to download the Wilmington Athletics app for schedules and updates; the committee noted more than 285 students participating in spring athletics and thanked coaches and families for dedication.

Members praised coaches and student athletes and asked whether the successful programs had returning players and potential for repeat success. The athletics director said most of the varsity cheer roster would return next season and highlighted senior contributions to leadership and culture. The committee encouraged the department to return in the spring to report on the next season’s results.
