On May 12, 2025, the Monticello City Council approved Ordinance 2025-33 annexing property at 830 Allerton Road into the city of Monticello, Piatt County, Illinois.
The property owner submitted a plat of survey and the city recommended approval. City staff read the ordinance to the council and said certified mailings had been sent to affected taxing bodies, including the Allerton Public Library and the Mid-Piatt Protection District. The ordinance cites state statute 65 ILCS 5/7-1-1 regarding annexation procedures. Robert M. Cox, a licensed land surveyor with Survey Solutions, told the council he represented Wood Place LLC, the property owner, and that the annexation plat was attached to the petition.
Council members asked whether the annexation would affect a nearby levee walking trail and were told it would not. City staff also advised that no action by the Planning and Zoning Board was necessary for this annexation under the cited statute. After discussion, a motion to approve Ordinance 2025-33 received a second and passed on roll call with all voting members present recorded as "yes." The council did not attach conditions to the approval during the meeting.
The annexed parcel is located south on Allerton Road, just past the municipal golf driving range and T-ball fields, according to the materials presented at the meeting. The city clerk will record the annexation ordinance and the annexation plat as part of the public record.
