A regional administrator asked counties in the North Central Region whether they wanted the regional detention center to retain grant funds awarded by the Montana Board of Crime Control. The region’s allocation for the 2025 fiscal year was cited as $130,209 in the staff packet. Broadwater County Sheriff and staff recommended continuing the existing practice so the regional facility can manage the funds used to help cover per-diem costs when juveniles are held at the regional center.
A motion to keep the funds with the regional detention center carried by voice vote with no public comment recorded. Commissioners and staff noted that juvenile detention requires specialized staff training and that the regional facility is better equipped to handle those needs.
