County clerk: ballots for May 6 election to be mailed April 17; April 3 is candidate withdrawal deadline

Broadwater County Clerk and Recorder Angie Paulsen updated commissioners that ballots for the countywide sheriff mill-levy question and a school board trustee contest will be ordered and mailed in mid-April for the May 6 election.
Paulsen said the deadline for write-in candidates and for existing candidates to withdraw is April 3 at 5 p.m. Ballots are scheduled to be mailed on April 17; the county is using an all-mail ballot format for the election but will operate late in-person voter registration at the courthouse beginning about April 16, Paulsen said. Voters eligible to cast a ballot in person during the late registration period must bring appropriate identification and submit their ballot at the courthouse in person.
She clarified the election is countywide because the sheriff mill levy covers the entire county; the school board trustee race is for a three-year term in the county but only applies to the appropriate school-district portion of the county. Paulsen noted the J-24 (Three Forks) school district is administered by Gallatin County and that ballots are split so voters receive the correct contests depending on their district.
