The City of Live Oak City Council approved first reading of Ordinance 15-33, which voluntarily annexes a small parcel into the city to correct a survey omission and allow a planned addition to the Canyon Vistas subdivision to proceed.
City staff explained the parcel is a very small triangle — about 0.09 acres — that was left out of the legal description when the larger area was annexed in February 2006. Staff member Mr. Burrows described the strip as roughly 26 by 256 feet and said the annexation would clean up the city boundary so the property owner can include the parcel in a proposed Phase 2 of Canyon Vistas.
Public comment on the annexation was nil and the council moved the ordinance on first reading. A motion to approve Ordinance 15-33 was made and seconded; the council voted in favor on first reading and the item passed first reading as Ordinance 15-33.
Staff framed the annexation as strictly corrective: it fills a small gap between an already-annexed parcel and adjacent private property and would allow the property owner to plat additional lots consistent with neighboring development. The council noted the parcel's size by comparing it to a football field: the staff explanation said about 15 similar-sized triangles would fit in one football-field-sized area, underscoring how small the strip is relative to standard lots.
