Commission accepts low bid for County Road 20 asphalt resurfacing

The Codington County Commission on May 13 accepted Dunick Incorporated's low bid of $728,691.10 for the 2025 County Road 20-4 asphalt resurfacing project, covering about two miles between County Road 11 and State Highway 81.
County superintendent Randy explained the project is a second phase following gravel work from the prior year. He told commissioners that Central Specialties submitted a higher bid of $849,209.10 and that, after reviewing the bids, he recommended awarding the contract to Dunnick.
Commissioner Johnson moved to accept Dunnick's bid; Commissioner McElhaney seconded. The motion carried after a roll call vote.
Randy said the project is intended to be bid and administered by the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) as part of a shared project; the state will cover 81.95% of the project cost and the remaining 18.05% will be split between the county and the city of Watertown, with the county responsible for 62% of that remainder.
Commissioners later authorized SDDOT to send the Fourteenth Avenue (shared) project out for bids under a similar funding split.
No further schedule or contractor start date was specified in the meeting; Randy apologized for earlier agenda confusion and thanked commissioners.
