Haslet council certifies May 3 election results and swears in mayor, two council members

City Secretary (Miss White) read the official election tallies and the certificate language on the council dais. "In the name and by the authority of the state of Texas, this is to certify that at the general election held on 05/03/2025, Gary Halsey was duly elected mayor," Miss White read aloud as part of the certificate of election. Miss White also read the results for council races and the canvass sheet provided by Tarrant County, and said, "And that is the official results that we received from Tarrant County." The tallies as read were: Gary Halsey (mayor) — 1 absentee, 53 early votes, 37 election-day votes, total 91; Chris Carruthers (Place 2) — 1 absentee, 61 early votes, 44 election-day votes, total 106; Zachary Gilbert (Place 4) — 1 absentee, 45 early votes, 30 election-day votes, total 76. The canvass materials also listed Amanda Veil as a candidate for Place 4 (35 early, 29 election-day votes as read), per the tally sheet.
A motion to approve an ordinance canvassing the May election and the vote totals was made and seconded during the meeting; the council voted in favor and the motion passed. The record shows the motion text as stated in the meeting: "approve the ordinance regarding canvassing the votes of the May election." After the canvass and certification, City Secretary Miss White administered the statutory oath of office. Each incoming official repeated the oath, beginning with Gary Halsey for mayor, followed by Chris Carruthers for council Place 2 and Zachary Gilbert for council Place 4. Each oath included the standard language that the official would "faithfully execute the duties" of the office and preserve and defend the constitution and laws of the United States and the state of Texas.
