The Wellington Chamber of Commerce reported it will hand-deliver paper surveys to chamber members to increase response rates for strategic-planning input and will use a modified version for nonmembers.
Method: Carol (Chamber) said the Chamber will deliver printed surveys, each with a cover letter and return envelope, to all 75 Chamber members; hand delivery is intended to encourage thoughtful responses and improve participation compared with email distribution.
Timing and follow-up: The Chamber asked recipients to return surveys by May and plans follow-up reminders including texts and additional deliveries if businesses misplace the packet. A separate, nonmember version omits membership-specific questions and will be distributed to identified nonmembers, with some outreach already under way.
Content: Survey questions include preferred communication modes, operating challenges, desired services from the Chamber and open-ended prompts about what businesses need from the community. Board members emphasized tailored cover letters by membership level and the goal of generating usable data for planning.
Next steps: Chamber staff will hand-tabulate returned paper surveys and report initial results after the May return deadline; organizers said they would also post an electronic version for businesses that prefer to respond online.
