Elmbrook board honors valedictorians, student entrepreneurs and state champions

Lou told the board, “winning JA was not an individual achievement. It was rather a team effort that took a village of people and years of effort to build into something truly magnificent.” He also described the training and time commitments of elite student athletes, saying, “I train 25 to 30 hours per week.”
Brookfield East student Jake Zhang was recognized as the Wisconsin state champion in congressional debate. Zhang described the competition’s setting and process, saying the team “had the privilege of actually debating on the real senate floor” at the Wisconsin State Capitol and explained the tournament’s preliminary and final rounds.
Student representatives from both high schools briefed the board on end-of-year activities and student-led events, including a districtwide service day and arts and athletic highlights. The reports noted three presidential scholar semifinalists in the district and multiple teams that advanced to national competitions (including a Brookfield Central Science Bowl team that finished sixth at Nationals and robotics teams that qualified for world-level events).
Board members offered praise and encouragement.
