Uplands Regional Land Bank outlines property rehabilitation work in Daviess County

A representative of the Uplands Regional Land Bank updated commissioners May 13 on the group’s work acquiring and rehabilitating vacant, abandoned and dilapidated properties across a six‑county region, including Daviess County.
The update matters because land‑bank acquisitions and rehabilitations can return properties to productive use, increase neighborhood property values and add affordable housing units in affected counties.
Bobby Abel, who said he is with the Uplands Regional Land Bank, told the board the land bank bought its first Daviess County property at a foreclosure sale and has hired local locksmiths, HVAC technicians, plumbers and inspectors to prepare the house for market. Abel said that property is pending sale and is expected to close at the end of the month; the buyer is a local couple and the completed rehabilitation will provide affordable housing.
Abel said that rehabilitation on that property should be finished by December 2025. He said the land bank is negotiating a second Daviess County purchase that will require environmental review and could take about a year before work can begin. He also said the land bank has acquired two properties in Greene County and one in Lawrence County and that it acquired liens on five properties at regional tax sales.
Abel asked county officials to notify the land bank of potential properties of interest. The presentation was informational; commissioners thanked him and took no formal action.
