The Board of Trustees unanimously approved renewal of Oceana High School’s instructional-minutes waiver, allowing the school to continue a previously authorized daily schedule reduction.
The waiver matters for students and staff because it preserves scheduled time for staff collaboration and for students to complete community-service hour requirements while formally reducing the district’s required instructional minutes at that site.
Corinne Baca, deputy superintendent of educational services, presented the renewal request and explained that Oceana’s waiver maintains a previously approved reduction of 4,560 minutes per school year (approximately 25 minutes per day). The presentation said the renewed waiver would be effective for two years beginning in the 2025–26 school year.
A motion to approve the renewal was made, seconded and approved by voice vote; the transcript records “So moved,” “Second,” and roll-call “Aye.” No additional conditions were recorded in the public discussion.
