"On April 25, we received $185,338 from the Department of Education, the Maine Department of Education," staff said.
Staff told the committee the district did not budget for this amount in FY25 or FY26 and plans to treat the money as an offset to costs already included in the district budget for multilingual services; accepting the funds, they said, should increase the district’s available fund balance. Chair Bridal asked for a motion; Board Member Lena moved to accept the funds, Board Member Opperman seconded, and the roll call vote was unanimous (Opperman: yes; Noor: yes; Lena: yes; Bridal: yes).
Staff said they will return to the committee in June (or August if needed) with a fuller proposal and reminded members that the district will track and document such substantial mid-year revenue changes for audit purposes and to maintain fiscal controls.
The committee’s action formalizes acceptance of new, unbudgeted grant revenue and documents the intended use as an offset to existing multilingual program costs.
