Members of the Frederick County Public Schools Community Advisory Council spent the bulk of their May 12 meeting reviewing Policy 4-4-3, the district’s draft guidance on creating welcoming and affirming supports for transgender and gender nonconforming students. The meeting, led by Sabrina (policy staff), collected detailed, written feedback and small-group discussion for the policy committee’s consideration.
Council members said the document contains some provisions they support but flagged multiple points that need clarification before the policy moves forward. Concerns ranged from inconsistent definitions and outdated terminology to how the school system would handle confidentiality, parental notification and the physical reality of facilities at some schools.
