Committee approves surplus science books, unified bowling stipends and summer field trip

The Burlington School Committee approved several routine operational items during the meeting, including declaring older science textbooks surplus, approving stipend rates for Unified Bowling coaches and authorizing a summer program field trip.

The committee voted to declare a list of science titles—many more than 15–20 years old and not used in recent instruction—surplus property so the district may dispose of them. That motion passed unanimously.

Committee members also approvedstipend rates for the state Unit A unified bowling program: $7,423 for head coach and $5,677 for assistant coach. Members praised the program as valuable for students with special needs; the motion passed 5‑0.

The committee approved a request to authorize the summer central program field trip to Manchester, N.H., on July 23, 2025. The motion passed 5‑0. Separately, Ways and Means reported the district withdrew Article 27 (bathroom work at Marshall Simons) from warrant consideration so the work could be better coordinated with backfield design and rec projects; withdrawal was described as a procedural step to avoid sequencing conflicts.
