Council approves two pedestrian crosswalk ordinances at Ridge/Mayfair and Carr/Broadway

Homewood City Council on May 12 approved two ordinances ordering the installation of marked pedestrian crosswalks at the intersections of Ridge Road and Mayfair Drive and at Carr Avenue and Broadway Street.
Both items came with public-safety committee recommendations that the work be performed in-house. Councilors moved for unanimous consent and the measures passed without recorded opposition. Council also recorded the ordinances’ readings and roll-call votes; both measures were adopted as ordinance numbers 29‑38 and 29‑39.
During discussion councilors noted the installations would include ramp upgrades where needed. Councilor Jones thanked public works staff and asked crews to coordinate ramp improvements at the same time as the crosswalk striping. The ordinances require drivers to yield to pedestrians in the marked crosswalks and establish penalties consistent with the city code for violations.
