Monroe Township council adopts two ordinances for first reading, approves consent resolutions

Monroe Township Council members introduced two ordinances on first reading and approved a consent agenda covering 28 resolutions at their Jan. 6 regular meeting.

The council voted unanimously to introduce Ordinance 01-2025-001, a supervisory personnel salary-and-wage ordinance for 2025, and Ordinance 01-2025-002, authorizing the recording of easements for municipal purposes on various municipal-owned parcels. Both motions passed on roll-call votes with Councilman Charles DePiro, Councilman Michael Markell, Councilwoman Rupa P. Segal and Council President Miriam Cohen voting yes; Council Vice President Terrence Van Zora was recorded absent earlier in the evening.

The council adopted Resolutions R012025-001 through R012025-028 by consent with the exception of R012025-004, R012025-007, R012025-008 and R012025-025, which council members removed for separate consideration. The removed resolutions were taken up and passed by roll call. The consent package and the separately considered resolutions covered routine municipal business, including budget transfers, shared-services agreements and other administrative items.

Council discussion that touched consent items included a resident question about the 2025 cash-management plan (staff said it represented participation in the State cash-management program) and a staff explanation that the temporary budget is an interim funding measure covering the first months of the year until a permanent budget is adopted. A separate resolution amending budget appropriations (R012025-027) was discussed: staff said the amendment primarily corrected the note interest amount tied to permanent financing and reallocated funds to reflect debt-service obligations.
