State comptroller staff presented Bedford County with a certificate recognizing a clean financial and compliance audit for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2024, marking the county's fifth clean audit.
The comptroller's representative congratulated county officials and singled out finance director Robert Daniel and county staff for consistent practices and internal controls that supported clean audits. The presentation noted that 95 counties were reviewed statewide and 14 received clean audits this year.
"The mission statement of the comptroller's office is to make government work better," the comptroller's presenter said, and added that Bedford County's systems and dedicated staff were reasons the county achieved another clean audit. Auditors Sherry Gill and Bailey Martin, who worked on the Bedford County engagement, also were recognized during the presentation.
County leaders accepted the certificate in the commission meeting chamber and thanked staff. The comptroller also mentioned that Bedford County had earned the Government Finance Officers Association certificate of excellence for 16 consecutive years while singling out the finance director's role in sustaining strong reporting practices.
No formal action was required for the recognition. Commissioners said the award reflected ongoing departmental work and praised staff collaboration during the audit process.
