Jefferson County commissioners approve minutes, consent agenda; highlight dispatch center, mountain rail and climate actions

The Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners convened April 22 and approved minutes from the April 15 meeting and the seven-item consent agenda before hearing commissioner reports on community events, infrastructure projects and the county climate plan.

Commissioner Leslie Dahlkemper said the board approved the minutes of April 15, 2025, and later approved consent agenda items 6.1 through 6.7 by unanimous vote. The roll call showed all three commissioners voting yes on both motions: Commissioner Kerr, Commissioner Zenzinger and Commissioner Dahlkemper.

The meeting’s substantive discussion came during commissioners’ reports, not as formal agenda items. Commissioner Zenzinger described attending the emergency dispatch center grand opening at Jeffco Public Schools, noting the center received a grant from the Office of School Safety and the School Safety Disbursement Grant Program. "It's gonna be a much better setting and layout for our very important public safety officials who work day in and day out on keeping our kids safe at school," Zenzinger said.

Zenzinger also reported on a Jefferson Public Parkway Highway Authority action to accept terms for a federally funded pedestrian bridge over Indiana Street, and said Jefferson County will assume ownership of the bridge at an agreed point. She said the Parkway Authority’s acceptance of the agreement was unanimous and construction on the bridge has already begun.

On regional transit, Zenzinger said Colorado Department of Transportation staff updated the Mountain Rail Coalition that the rail project is being funded largely through state dollars and is not reliant on federal grants. She noted local governments will be responsible for developing station-area infrastructure. "The station areas are really going to fall to the local governments," she said.

Commissioner Kerr said Jefferson County presented an update on the Together Jeffco initiative at the Metro Area County Commissioners meeting and highlighted upcoming community events, including an Open Space Earth Day volunteer event at Van Bibber Park on Saturday, with volunteers starting at 9 a.m. and lunch around noon.

Dahlkemper reminded residents of a virtual town hall on May 19 from 6 to 7 p.m. to discuss next steps related to ballot question 1A funding for public safety and infrastructure and encouraged applications to the citizens advisory committee that will advise on spending recommendations. She also called attention to the county’s climate action plan and its greenhouse gas reduction target, and congratulated Conifer High School students who received scholastic journalism awards.

County Manager Joe Kirby and staff attended a community "good news" breakfast earlier the same day and reported county representation there; no other staff reports or public comments were offered during the meeting.

No members of the public spoke during either public-comment period; the board opened two public-comment opportunities at the start and end of the session and recorded no speakers. The meeting was adjourned after commissioners’ reports and staff comments.
